Transporting Pets - Basic Requirements and Considerations


The following are necessary considerations and requirements to all pets’ species being transported for any reason:

Know the Restrictions and Requirements for Transporting Animals
Countries, states, territories, and also public methods of transportation have restrictions and requirements on transport pets.  The rules and regulations help to save pets, people, and the environment by protecting against the increase of harmful diseases, pests, and invasive and injurious pets. If the pet is not well – either having any diseases or is injured, then it is kept in quarantine means they are being kept separate from other pets and animals. It is your task to get all the information from the authorities of your destination before travel so that you could plan accordingly.

Comply with the Regulatory Timeline
The regulatory timeline is mainly a sequential order and timeframe in which the travel fundamentals require to be completed. Is there sufficient time to assemble the destinations’ bring in necessities? Timing may be significant. Be sure to maintain all activities required to ensure your pet transport eligibility.

Schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for your pet’s exam
Pets should be healthy and fit enough to take a trip and depending on the rules of your airlines, there might be further pet’s health rudiments, like tests, identification, certifications, vaccinations, etc.

Share information with your veterinarian
The destination authorities might have sent you detailed information or forms that required be sharing with or signing by the veterinarian when transporting pets.  Your veterinarian might require making copies of the resources to help in the CVI (certificate of veterinary inspection) process or for record keeping motives.

Make arrangements for pet care in transit and at arrival
Just like when at home, pets must be given water, proper handling, food, and healthcare. Plan forward, and recognize a veterinarian at your destination before traveling. Your veterinarian might be able to offer a referral. If you require a veterinarian while in the journey, you may also call your home veterinarian to look if he can suggest a practice in the area. Or, you can try with friends in the area, or use the internet or a local business directory to find a veterinarian nearby. If you know or just feel that your pet will require to be quarantined, work with the authorities in advance to address issues, particularly any healthcare requirements your animal might have.

Flying
Contact your airline to verify that your pets and its restraint satisfy the airline’s requirements and restrictions. Check once more with the airline the day of your flight.  If it is too cold or hot at the departure, connecting, or arrival airport, the airline might refuse to transport pets.
